Today is a very special day, full of excitement and hope. Not only because we are announcing our plans to adopt, but also because it the feast day of Saint John Paul II who is very special to us. This is our first blog post and we are looking forward to bringing you along on this journey with us. We are meeting with our close friends later today to take photos and officially launch our websites. We ask for your prayers for ourselves and for the birth parents and baby that we are hoping God will bring our way.
Since the beginning of our marriage we have always dreamt of having a growing family, a home filled with joy, laughter, messes and excitement that children bring. Both of us have always wanted to adopt whether or not we had children of our own. Now that we are ready to embark on this journey, there is lots to be done!
Although we are open to many forms of adoption, we are currently planning to move forward with private/independent domestic adoption. A few years back we began the process of learning as much as we could about adoption. We read books, researched as much as we could, and took a whole course of classes about adopting. Last month we met with our adoption attorney to discuss all of our options and to continue learning even more. Since then we have been working on our profile that will be given to birth moms and are beginning to plan for our home study.
Many hands make light work, and there is lots of work to be done! We have made cards to hand out in hopes that they will connect us with the birth family that will choose us for their adoption plan. If you would like to give out these cards along with us, or would just like a few to hold on to, please let us know and we would be more than happy to send some to you! For those of you who feel inspired, we have set up a fundraising page simply because adoption is expensive and even though we are saving away, it would take us until 2050 to do it alone. No matter what you feel called to, please send your prayers and thoughts our way, this is the most valuable gift you can give and know that you are always in our prayers as well!
